There are multiple ways to track Campaigns in SharpSpring. Before we get into some strategies it's important to note that leads must be assigned to a Campaign in order to track them. You have three options for tracking campaigns using SharpSpring: a dedicated landing page, a UTM code that is placed at the end of your website's URL and the "How Did You Here About Us" field on your forms.
The following video will show you how to track campaigns in SharpSpring. However, if you prefer, a written step-by-step guide is available below the video for your convenience.
Step-by-Step Guide on how to set up Campaign Tracking
Tracking via a Landing Page
Step 1: Of course, you'll need a tracking page for this tutorial but for this demonstration. Let's use a Facebook ad campaign as an example.
Step 2: Pull up the Campaign page on Facebook.
Step 3: Paste the url for the the landing page into the URL field on Facebook. Now, you have an ad that is going to be driving leads to a specific landing page.
Step 5: Now return to the SharpSpring app and navigate to the Campaign Insights page by mousing over the Analytics tab and clicking on Campaigns.
Step 6: Just below the Analytics tab, click on the gray gear symbol and select "Manage Campaigns" in the drop down menu.
Step 6: On the Campaigns/Management page, locate your Facebook Campaign. To the right of the Campaign, click the gray gear symbol and select "Edit Campaign" in the drop down menu.
Step 8: Scroll down to the "tracking" section of the page. In the drop down box, select the website you're using for the campaign.
Step 9: In the field below the drop down box, write in the URL extension.
Step 10: Click on the blue "Add Rule" button.
You have successfully tracked a campaign using a dedicated landing page.
(Note: The one downside to tracking a Campaign through a landing page, is that for every advertisement you want to track, you will have to create a separate landing page for each campaign. To avoid this issue, we recommend using UTM codes.)
UTM codes enable you to send leads from multiple Campaign sources to a single, dedicated page such as your website's homepage.
Step 1: For this demo, let's use a Facebook campaign as an example. So, we'll go ahead and pull up the campaign page on Facebook.
Step 2: In the URL section of the Facebook campaign, after you have pasted the appropriate page URL, place a "?" at the end of the URL. Then right after the question mark, insert utm=campaign1.
If sending leads to your homepage, you should type http://"yourwebsiteurl".com?utm=campaign1, here "yourwebsiteurl" is your company's URL and "campaign1" is a unique name we made up.
Step 3: Now return to the SharpSpring app and navigate to the Campaign Insights page by mousing over the Analytics tab and clicking "Campaigns." Next, just below the Analytics tab, click the gray gear pull-down and select "Manage Campaigns."
Step 4: On the Campaigns/Management page, locate your Facebook Campaign. To the right of the Campaign, click the gray gear symbol and select "Edit Campaign" in the drop down menu.
Step 5: Scroll down to tracking and insert the UTM code (utm=campaign1) into the "Page or Parameter" field next to the "Site" drop down box. In the drop down box, select your website. Click on the blue "Add Rule" button.
Now, leads that visit from our Facebook campaign will be associated with the appropriate Campaign.
How Did You Here About Us?
The How Did You Here About Us question is used when a lead comes to a page on your site and is not associated with a Campaign. The HDYHAU field will pop up automatically in SharpSpring and enable you, based on the answer the lead gives, to assign them to a specific campaign. By default, this field will only appear for leads that are not associated with a Campaign but you can change this in the Form Editor.
